Docu-narrative look at the people in a small Florida town as a hurricane bears down on them.
This is a series of unrelated stories only connected to each other by the location and by the approaching storm. Each film is told in more or less its own way, with its own pacing.
This is a film you are either going to love or hate. The low key approach isn’t for anyone. This is a film full of silences and random conversations. Its film that isn’t telling a set story but a lot of little tales that make up a larger portrait.
It looks great and the characters are interesting, but I don’t know if it all really comes together. To me this feels like a lot of pieces looking for a home. While it’s looking for the bigger portrait, it kind of fuzzes out and pixelates. Yea, the pieces are great but over all… not so much.
One thing I did in reading on the film compared it to the work of Kelly Reichart, which is kind of understandable, but which I don’t like Reichart’s films, I at least thought they are more exciting than this.
I honestly drifted off about half way through. I was watching but not as intently as I could have or should have.
I have no idea what you’ll think but I think it’s fair to say your mileage will vary.
