DEAR TOMORROW (2025) SXSW 2025

Two lonely people in Japan realize they need to connect and take steps to do so with the help of a chat line.

Low key drama is either going to thrill you of bore you. This is largely the story of two people who live in isolation and so there are lots of silences. We get some interesting voice overs about living the lonely life in Japan from various news sources, but not a great deal is said.

While I didn’t hate the film, it really didn’t work for me. Call this an okay entry in slow cinema. There is something here, but it didn’t grab me. As a guy who spends a lot of time alone like these people I found their lives a bit too quiet.

If the subject or slow cinema interests you give the film a try. Everyone else can pass.
