Life After (2025) Sundance 2025

Portrait of the complicated question of people’s right to die framed around the story of Elizabeth Bouvia who over 40 years ago sought to be allowed to die because she simply didn’t want to live at the beck and call of everyone around her. The fight dragged on for years until she finally disappeared from view.  As director -Reid Davenport tries to discover when Bouvia died he is forced to reckon with the right to die movement, and how in some places giving people the right to die is going wrong (people who are not rational are being given a lethal drug  while others are not being given the services they need, say a stair lift and instead are being offered lethal injections because it would be cheaper in the long run.

Certain to push all sorts of Buttons LIFE AFTER is going to rock your world. No matter where you are on the subject you are going to find your cage rattled because there are going to be things here you never considered. I was left just staring at the screen.

This is an excellent film, and a tough tough watch.

Honestly I’m not in a headspace to really discuss this, my attempts at doing a straight on review resulted in very long reviews that went all over the place. The best I can do is say you must see this because the issues here are going to play some role in your life.

One of the best films at Sundance it may very well end up on my year end lists as well
