This is the story of Sharon Washington, actress preparing to do a show based upon her living in the library when she was young but running into trouble in that working on the show raised a lot of issues she didn't want to deal with. While I find the basic story about an actress who grew up living in a branch of NYPL absolutely intriguing I found the presentation uneven. There are moments in the doc that soar (the animated sequences showing life in the library are alive), but some of the discussions around it are not as compelling because they seem to be by rote. the filmmakers didn't seem to know how to infuse the whole tale with the magic of the moments.
It’s not bad but it didn’t really stay with me and if I was watching it on PBS I would have been ready to move on by the end.
That said I would be interested if and when the TV series they are working on that tells the story sees the light of day.
