UNEARTH (2024) DOC NYC 2024

When  two sets of siblings find out that a new mine is going to be built outside of their town in Alaska and that there is a very good chance it’s going  poison their fishing grounds they step up to find out as much as they can and to put a stop to it before it’s too late.

This is a good look at the perils of mining on the environment and the communities surround them.  Most of us don’t really consider mining because we live in urban areas but elsewhere mining is a part of a lot of people’s lives and it adversely effects the environment around them. Everyone thinks that the new sources of fossil fuel alternatives will save the environment but the truth is they come with destructive mining of the materials needed for things like batteries.

UNEARTH is a real kick in the pants. A low key measured exploration of the dangers of mining the film makes it’s points by simply telling and showing us what we need to know. We are shocked because the dangers are quietly laid out to us.

I was moved.

This is a super film and very recommended.
