My thoughts on The American Question (2024) are tied up with current events

James Kicklighter ponders the divisions in America and ponders if it is going to be possible to heal them.

I'm not going to lie, my opinion of this film is extremely affected by the events of the last week. Watching several screaming matches in New York City this past Thursday, where people people were screaming at each other about the election results and the Trump supporters saying we "don't need snowflakes like you lefties." and warning any non- Trump supporters that are going to be rounded up  locked away, makes me uncertain that America will be able to heal. The hatred and ability say things that are hateful seem to be on the rise now that we have a new old man in the White House. As a result I really didn't feel the hope.

That said Kicklighter's film is an interesting film. It's a discussion with several people from communities in Michigan and Pennsylvania about the issues that are important to them, how the view at the divide in the country and their ideas about how to make it better. It's an interesting film, that  has a great deal of hope in in it. Assuming that the country hasn't shifted too far off the cliff this film shows a way back.

Because the film is tied to the election I have to say that it  also highlights how clearly clueless the Harris campaign was with their handling of the issues.  Why did they lose?  They had no clue what mattered or how to address the issues.

You will forgive me lack of discussion. Current events and my feelings make it difficult, not because there isn't much to say, more that I will end up going off the film into other matters.

That said, this is a good film that is worth a look.(It's available streaming ion  most services)
