DOC NYC 2024 CAPSULES: GAUCHO GAUCHO; ETERNAL FATHER; DEATH AND TAXES

GAUCHO GAUCHO (2024)
This is a portrait of the gauchos of Argentina who are still living the life in the lands where they have roamed for generations.

This is a good documentary that is very deliberately put together. Its so deliberate in it's set ups it feels less like a documentary than a slow moving narrative.  I like it but I think the pacing may work against some audiences.

Worth a look.

ETERNAL FATHER(2024)
Short film from the New Yorker that looks at one man's desire to out live time by being frozen.

I'm not sure what I think of this film. It's portrait of an odd man with kids who is looking to extend his life...and I'm not certain what I think because I kept wanting to have him live in the now. I know it's how the film was edited but I kept wanting to smack him.

DEATH AND TAXES (2024)
The story of a father obsessed with leaving his family his money and not having it all go in taxes. It’s a 20 year long story full of home movies and talking heads. Apologies, this really wasn’t anything I really was interested in.  Dealing with my dad’s estate I’m familiar with some of this but at the same time I didn’t connect to the story being told.  It’s not bad, but it also isn’t my cup of tea.
