When a friend of Jason Statham's kills herself after all her money is stolen by computer bad guys he uses hi skills as a former 'Beekeeper"* to burn down and kill everyone and everything responsible for the crime.
Totally mindless action film doesn't make one lick of sense but goes like the wind from start to finish. This is pure action and that's all. Sure there maybe something about hackers being bad floating in it, but it really is just Statham kicking ass for the better part of two hours.
If there is any problem with the film is that twice this nicely modulated, reasonably realistic film goes off the rails. Once when we meet the current Beekeeper who is punkish woman with a minigun. The other is when a bunch of Aussie mercenaries show up at the end for zero reason. All the characters don't fit into the movie since they are too cartoony. It would be like dropping a manic Daffy Duck into the original Flash Gordon comic. Yes they are both cartoons but one is closer to reality (even if set is space) than the other.
Quibble aside, I had a blast to the point the film made me sad because my dad would have absolutely loved this film (I could hear him laughing in the empty seat next to me.)
Highly recommended.
*- Beekeepers are a group outside of the chain of command who are tasked with keeping the system functioning. They do what is best for the hive and generally can't be stopped.
