This is the story of two people who are kidnapped in the middle of the night and taken to the middle of the desert where the man is beaten up and tortured in the hope of revealing a buried treasure of a million dollars. The problem is there was no million dollars buried and the bad guys sped off into the night after cutting the man's penis off.
Actually this is the story of what happened after that as the police try to sort out what happened and why. While what follows isn't as insane as that, the story still has a number of crazy turns that will make you stare at the screen in utter amazement until the end.
This is hands down my favorite film from SXSW and one of my favorite films of 2024. To be certain it isn't perfect, it gets kind of conventional for a bit, but at the same time few films in the last decade have grabbed my attention and made me not want to do anything but watch and wait for the whole story to be told.
I have nothing but love for this film. I was texting friends to tell them they have to see the film because it's so wild. I couldn't tell where this was going at any point because the things that happen are so out there that you can't believe they are happening. There is a point where a detective talks about how "everything was good, until it wasn't" and it's a statement that kind of gets replayed over and over again as events are normal until they aren't.
And as much as I told you at the top, there is so much more to the story that it isn't giving anything away.
You must see this.
Highly recommended- DICKWEED is certain to be talked about at year's end.
