MISSING is the story of Lucie Blackman who was working as a hostess in Japan in 2000. While the police did a cursory investigation, her father managed to keep the disappearance in the media. When his determination dug up connection to other cases, the police were forced to step up and look for a serial predator.
This is a good little doc that I enjoyed the hell out of. To be certain the film is a bit by the numbers, it kind of plays like a two part episode of Dateline or 48 Hours, but at the same time it takes us to a place that most of us have never been. As a rule we don’t get true life stories of crime in Japan, so seeing something that opens up the dark side of the country in a non-fictional way is very cool. While the film could have used a little bit more background explanation of Japanese society,it still gives us enough to fully understand every thing we need to know.
Worth a couple hours or your time.
