DOSH (Trailer) from Radha Mehta on Vimeo.
Nice little short film that takes us into the home of a Hindi family where the appearance of being okay is putting everyone's life in danger. It seems that the father is not going to let anyone know he is not okay.
While set within an immigrant community, DOSH transcends being just about one group by being about anyone who refuses to get help because to do so is some unwritten and bogus cultural taboo. We all know people who are simply too afraid to let anyone give them help. It's something that can play out with tragic results.
Beyond the message, DOSH is an absolute lovely film. The sequence of dancing that opens the film has been haunting me for the past month since I first saw the film. There is a real sense of place and of life that makes me want to see what Radha Mehta does next.
Recommended.
