This is a look at actor turned political candidate Zack Weiner who decided to run to New York City Council and make a film of it. Along the way he has to deal with the campaign, the crazies who are part of the political landscape and a leaked sex tape that ended up on Stephen Colbert.
This movie is very funny. This is a film about a guy and his friends who are trying to genuinely make a difference but are willing to go with whatever comes along the way. It's a trip that is both informative about the political landscape, and amusing because you're never going to guess where this story is going to go. I dare you to guess, without looking it up, where this is going.
What made the film work for me is the joy that it contains. Yes, things go wrong, but everyone just sort of goes with it. There doesn't seem to be any manufactured drama or much of the dark political rhetoric that we get these days and as a result we end up warming to everyone. Its a very hopeful film despite everything that happens.
I had a blast.
Very recommended, this is one of the joys of Slamdance
