I’m a sucker for 80’s slasher flicks. The good, the bad, the downright embarrassing yet entertaining. ‘Iced’ is a film that flys off one of the latter slopes here.
With a low budget, and all the drama of a daytime soap opera, ‘Iced’ doesn’t quite deliver all the goods. A ski resort is our main location, yet it’s never fully utilized. The snowy, winter mix is something different than the typical summer camp, but a decent portion of the movie takes place inside. At least the level of debauchery is turned up like the heat. The cast is made up of a few actors, and writer from the much more enjoyable, Slumber Party Massacre. Not included in that, it stars the original Wednesday Adams, Lisa Loring. Who also appears naked, several times, which supposedly caused some light backlash from fans of The Addams Family television show.
The editing is choppy, the pacing is off…by ALOT, and the kills are mostly held back from being too much fun. Standard for a film like this, especially one arriving in the dying days of the decade. Honestly, this one is a bit of a bore until the final act, but I did find myself laughing at the absurdity throughout. The dialogue and acting are pure cheese, with several scenes that truly head scratching. Including one of the most bizarre WTF endings of the entire genre.
Speaking of genres, in one where there is no shortage of seasonal-related viewing, you can certainly do far worse this time of year. Even though ‘Iced ’ feels more like going down a bunny hill than a steep incline.
