Play with the Devil – Becoming Zeal & Ardor
This is a portrait of Manuel Gagneux, Swiss musician who is mixing Negro spirituals with heavy metal to make Black Death Metal that confronts the ills of life by pondering what would happen if the slaves has not become Christian but Satanists. (Okay it’s not that extreme but you get the idea.)
This is a wonderful film about an unlikely success story about a singular musician who finds he has to form a group in order to take his music on the road. It’s a film that doesn’t follow the typical path ways because Gagneux isn’t a typical musician. Yes we see performances and behind the scenes stuff but at the same time Gagneux isn’t going to conform to the typical rock tropes. It’s a refreshing look at a man and his music who have a lot to say.

PAUL MULDOON: LAOITHE ‘S LIRICÍ/A LIFE IN LYRICS
Autobiographical film about pot and song writer Paul Muldoon told via a song a poetry cycle performed by Muldoon and his friends.
Grand cinematic performance piece is full of good music and poetry. I’ve run across Muldoon numerous times over the years at various events at the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan and this film feels like some of his shindigs.
I don’t know what else to say but this film is a delight. It’s good time with good people.
