In the 1990’s a man living in a small fishing village in Iceland (built a soccer field dreaming of a home game in the FA Cup. The team ended up with an away game, lost 10-0, and no one ever played on the field.. Nobody ever set foot on the home pitch. 25 years later Kari Vidarsson resurrects his father’s dream to get a FA cup to the village, but there are complications.
Nice little film reminded me of the excellent documentary NEXT GOAL WINS (recently turned in an okay film by Taika Waititi) in the best way. This is a portrait of a small town and the people who live their and their passion for soccer. What keeps the film from falling into the run of the mill is the fact there are unexpected complications. Things do not go as we expect and as a result we are kept sitting in our seats chomping popcorn.
What an absolute delight.
