Catya Plate has finished her trilogy on climate change and we are better for it.
LAS NOGAS is the third film in a series, it follows HANGING BY A THREAD and MEETING MACGUFFIN and continues the tale of life in the far off future where climate change has take away our water and made life nigh impossible- except that some people are fighting to bring life fully back.
If you haven't seen the previous films, don't worry, you don't need to. Yes it helps fill out the world of the story but for the most part you can just dive in and go.
For me the joys of Catya's films are the visuals and the little touches. She always throws in little things that might be throwaways in other films but actually end up driving her story. Here it's the music. The score itself is glorious and has a wonderful quality to it that shapes our emotions. It kind of runs against the feral characters and reminds us of their "humanity". Catya's use of music can not be under estimated in making the film work. I also love the fleeting musical "numbers" which have a weird Busby Berkely quality to them. I could very well see the pieces in a feature if Warner's did post apocalyptic dance routines.
This film is just a delight. It's an intelligent animated film with a unique look and a great deal of heart.
You need to see this...it will get you in the mood for Catya's upcoming feature film.
