David Cronenbergs’s latest is essentially a very creepy art installation piece. That isn’t a knock, but it’s the best explanation of what it is and how you’ll probably see it.
The film is a four minute look at four wax figures of women in various forms of disembowelment as they float on rafts. The sound is the sea and the sound of a woman moaning in ecstasy. That may sound od, and it is but the result is deeply disturbing. You know what you are seeing isn’t real but the marriage of sound and image gets under your skin and makes you want to cringe.
It’s wonderful….if you’re like me and like that sort of thing.
