This is the story of the Brentford Penguins Football Club. It's a team made up of only kids with Downs Syndrome. The film follows as the kids get ready to be an honor guard at a premiership game and it reveals how being on the team changed the lives of the team and their families.
There is a reason that I will watch any film sent to me by a filmmaker, it results in great finds. Director Louis Myles contacted me to see if I would like his film. I said sure, and as a result I found one of the great films of Tribeca. How the hell did this only get on screening at the festival? What a major loss to anyone who didn't get to see this wondrous film.
What an absolute joy this film is. It's not only a great portrait of a bunch of kids, but it also shows the joys of what happens when we just take people as they are.
This film will break your heart and make you feel so damn good.
I love this film. This is why I love the movies and film festivals...it's being made to feel like this.
Do yourself a favor and track this film down.
