Copyright Infringement Documentary // First Look (2023) from D'Marie on Vimeo.
Portrait of artist CJ Hendry who was going to release a series of t-shirts based on the Polaroid's of Andy Warhol. Stopped close to the release Hendry was told to get rid of the shirts…and she did by leaving them in various cities where fans of her art could search them out based up the clues she gave them.
Frequently frenetic documentary is one part examination of the laws of copyright, one part bio of the art at the center of the tale and one slightly larger part of a crazy scavenger hunt. The result is an breezy thrill ride that is frequently a lot of fun.
Yes I had a great deal of fun with this one. While I could discuss the legal side of the tale, the thing that was of more interest to me was the scavenger hunt aspects of the story. There was something about it that connected to me. I suspect was it was kind of like seeing the craziness of the way Banksy will drop works of art in a city and let people chase them, however we see it from a different perspective.
I really liked this film a great deal and it’s worth your time when it plays at the Brooklyn Film Festival.
