This film is the story of Narcissa Wright who became known as speed video game player. She could manipulate games so that she could beat games that would take others weeks to play in a matter of minutes. Narcissa’s world turned upside down when she came out as transgender and many of her followers turned against her.
I am the wrong person to be discussing this film, largely this is film involves something I know almost nothing about, the on-line video game community, specifically the one where people will spend hours watching other people play video games. I would rather play the games than watch them. As such I was not a fan of much of the footage that makes up this film which is made up of Narcissa's live streams.
On the other hand I am aware enough that BREAK THE GAME is a vital and important film because so many people are involved in some level with the on-line gaming community. With in this film they see how toxic it can be.
Most importantly it's a portrait of a young woman who is trying to find herself, who is lost in that world. Its a warts and all portrait of the road Narcissa takes through the darkness and out and as such it is going to help other people who can relate to her story. It may even save their life
While this film didn't work for me, I know that if this film seems of interest to you you are going to love it.
