Portrait of the AIDS crisis and the activists by the survivors.
Focusing on the AIDS crisis as viewed from California and Hollywood COMMITMENT TO LIFE is a look back at a terrifying time not so long ago. Its the story of those who lived and those who died. Its the story of how it took an almost herculean effort to begin to turn the tide and end the social stigma that the disease had.
This is a very good look at the AIDS crisis from a different angle. Many films tend to focus on AIDS activism in New York because it tended to be loud and sexy, COMMITMENT instead looks at it from another angle and in so doing opens up avenues that got over looked and down played. For example we really get a good idea how important Elizabeth Taylor was to changing the tide. Yes she was always in the story but here we get a better look at how she mobilized people and made it okay for them to speak out and actually do something.
I was moved.
Definitely worth a look and very recommended.
