With THE ART OF SILENCE playing Slamdance here is my review from last years Hot Docs
Nominally the story of Marcel Marceau, The art of silence also seeks to include the story of his family and other factors relating to the art of mime and the people who perform it.
To be honest I don’t know what I think of the film it’s not that the film is bad, it’s more that I don’t know if it is casting too wide a net. While the film is clearly a love letter to the art and Marceau, it also wants to say a great deal about all of the related things connected to it (Marceau's family, deaf people and theater, how mime can help people with diseases). I’m not certain it does them all justice and with some of what the film presents to us I wanted to know more. I leaned in expecting it to go somewhere but it just sort of sat there.
If the subject interests you give it a shot, just forgive it's all over nature.
