Enemies of the State played earlier today at the Tribeca Film Festival. Because the film is scheduled to open July 20th in theaters I’ve been asked to only say a few words about the film now and then run a full review for the theatrical release.
What you need to know is this is a super documentary that borders on being a thriller. It’s the story of Matthew DeHart who was arrested by the US government for espionage and kiddie porn. He and his family say he was framed and that he has been tortured while in custody. The film presents both sides, weaving the narratives together in the hope of getting at the truth.
It’s a hell of a ride and if you love films that you will be thinking about for hours afterward put it on your must see list
