(April 12, 2021, Hollywood, CA) The Venice Institute of Contemporary Art (ViCA) is proud to announce the Official Selections for the 8th Annual Fine Arts Film Festival (FAFF), coming up on June 8-14, 2021 on Vimeo. FAFF – the world’s largest art film festival – will present 102 films from 48 countries represented across the globe. Over half of the films were directed or produced by women, and POC directed almost a third of them.
One of the headliners is “Acting: The First Six Lessons,” directed by Emily Bridges, which Premieres at FAFF. In the film Emily and her father Beau Bridges explore the craft of acting and the appreciation of life itself, and also features Beau’s brother Jeff Bridges. An important US Premiere to watch is “Jasmine Road,” directed by Warren Sulatychy, a portrait of racially diverse characters dealing with recent immigration, love, loss and identity, something all the world is experiencing.
A wide range of art topics are represented with comedy, tragedy, famous and infamous art, music, dance, and performance world figures both famous and forgotten. Films (including VR) focus on everything from environmental art to art history and art theft, technology, sci-fi, folk music and art, opera, jazz, and martial arts, in locations from NYC to rural Turkey to the Azores and beyond. As always, political and social activism plays a major part with subjects including immigration/the displaced, LGBTQ, and the disabled. This not-to-be-missed seven-day online event will include live Q&A’s with filmmakers and artists, to be broadcast during the festival.
Ticketing information is available on the ViCA website. Eight curated series of films (running an average of 6 hours each) are being offered at $10 per series. A festival pass for all films will be available for just $25.
The festival is dedicated to presenting the finest new films about art in the western capital of the art world, and tell stories about how art is made, how artists survive, how they think and work, and what makes creativity our most important skill, and our best hope for mankind.
“During the pandemic the fact that we received so more submissions than ever is amazing, and the largest percentage is in the Experimental category, which for me is very gratifying,” says Juri Koll, Founder and Director of ViCA, who produces the festival as part of its ongoing exhibition programs. Koll adds, “We proudly screen wonderful and never-before-seen films from often unknown filmmakers from around the world. Films about art and creativity are a labor of love, and the film and art worlds have always intertwined. It's easily forgotten how much blood, sweat, and tears go into the work we do. We expect this festival will amaze audiences with intelligent, cutting edge, eloquent, passionate, and fun films.”
The FAFF 2021 Awards Ceremony will be presented online on Monday, June 14. at 8pm PT online.
Official Selections of FAFF 2021 will be offered a distribution deal through the ViCAFilms/Big Pieces Company partnership, which has resulted in the Art/World Collection viewable now on Vimeo.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to work with FAFF, ViCA Films and the filmmakers to help share their films worldwide," said Jim Quan, Head of Sales and Marketing, The Big Pieces Company. "Over the course of its eight-year run, FAFF has done a fantastic job of assembling a wonderful collection of creative art films, all compelling works of art in their own right."
Sponsors past and present include Blick Art Materials, Beyond Baroque, 4 Brothers Wine Co., Flake, the Estonian American Business Alliance, and many others.
