Portrait of the Dagmarsminde nursing home in Denmark. Instead of treating dementia patients with typical treatments the staff focuses on engaging and connecting with the patients via touch, cake, bubbles, hugs, conversation, walks in the woods and other unconventional means.
This is a film that will make you wonder what the world would be like if we treated patients with kindness and caring instead of locking them up and medicating them into oblivion. After hearing so many horror stories about loved ones who went to a nursing home and slipped away, it was so nice to see caregivers who treated their charges with compassion. What a wonderful thing to see the patients being human longer and engaging with the world instead of being zombified by drugs.
I was moved.
You will forgive me if I leave it there but the film kick up some stuff that i s making it difficult for me to put into words how I feel. It's not so much that I don't have the words it just that I need more time to get my words right and the need to get this piece up for the festival is making it difficult. Just know this is a great film and is recommended
