EXTRO (2019) Japan Cuts 2020
A loving mockumentary sending up the Japanese film industry and the extras that populate the films. The film focuses o several extras as they prepare for their roles and one in particular who wants to step into the spotlight.
Much of EXTRO doesn't feel like a fake film, rather it feels like a genuine film thanks to the perfect use of many well known actors and directors who give their insight into the world of extras, or populate the fake films we see being filmed.
I don't know what to say other than I smiled and was carried along from stat to finish. Everything here clicked. Full praise to director Naoki Murahashi who doesn't allow things to get out of hand. Everything is carefully modulated so as to remain as real as possible.
I had a ball and recommend EXTRO.
