Cenote (2020) Japan Cuts 2020
I am slowly working my way through the Japan Cuts films but I don't think any film other than CENOTE will be more impactful as this one. A stunning visual essay concerning the giant cenotes, sink holes, that are in Mexico the film is full of sounds and images that are completely trippy.
I don't know what to say except sitting in the dark this film truly floored me. This is a film that took me out of myself and put me somewhere else. I kept watching it wondering what this would have been like in a theater where the images were larger than life.
To be honest I don't know what to say about the film. A very primal, extremely viceral film it is something that everyone is going to react to differently.I fell head over heels for it.
Do yourself a favor and take a look at the trailer and see what you think.. If you like head trip films then this will probably connect with you. It really did for me.
Very recommended for those who want something different CENOTE plays July 17 to 30 as part of the virtual Japan Cuts (though access is only good in the US) Tickets can be had here.
