Juliette Binoche gives an Oscar worth performance as a woman who is in therapy after an online romance goes completely wrong.
The plot has Binoche talking to new doctor about how after a romance with a young man name Ludo ended she created an on line persona of a woman half her age. As she stalked her old beau she falls into an on line relationship with Ludo's roommate Alex. As the pair get closer things spiral out of control.
I love Binoche's performance. As a big fan of the actress I loved that this film is pretty much all her all the time. It is a masterful performance that is going to be studied and copies for years to come. Trust me, this is Binoche at the top of her game.
The problem with the film is that in the last third of the film it goes right off the rails. It twists and twists and twists to the point that I had a hard time either connecting to it emotionally and wondering WTF the filmmakers (and the author of the source novel) was thinking. Potboiler doesn't do what happens justice. I thought some of the 1930's program films were wacky but that is nothing compared to this.
To be fair some of the people in the press screening I attended loved it, but some wer like me and wondering what the hell they were thinking.
