This is a repost of the review that we ran when the film played DOC NYC last November.
Atypical documentary that skirts the notion of whether it is a documentary at all concerning the wicked halny winds in Poland’s Tatra Mountains that occur a couple of times every year. The winds are so strong that they cause terrible destruction of trees, property and the human psyche.
Despite being more an observational film about the people in the region than anything concrete about the winds, this is one of the creepiest films you’ll see all year. There is something oppressive about it all which makes it hang with you despite you’re wanting more concrete information and the passage of several days time.
