Nightcap 7/9/17 Scary Movies Starts Friday, Fantasia starts Thursday (and I'll have a curtain raiser up soon)
Scary Monsters X starts this Friday at Lincoln Center and its must attend if for no other reason than it was programmed by the one and only Rufus DeRham. I consider Rufus a friend and trust his taste without question. If you’ve ever attended the New York Asian Film Festival for the previous seven or eight years you’ll be aware of how great his program skills are since he was responsible for many of the meatier and crazier films at NYAFF. I know he has some incredible films set to scare the pants off you.
Coverage of the festival is going to be spotty. The original plan was to attend the screenings in person (there are a bunch of films I want to see on the big screen) but things are up in the air thanks to the reconstruction of Penn Station. While I can get into the city by going the long way round the additional travel time on weekdays is going to make things tricky.
Even though my plans maybe in question, that doesn’t mean you can’t go. I mean the chance to get in on the ground floor for IT STAINS THE SAND RED from Colin Minihan one half of the Vicious Brothers is one that shouldn’t be passed up. Additionally the opening film of TERRIFIER about killer clowns has the NYC critics circle chattering excitedly.
Additionally the film is running such classic gems as FROGS, Bob Balaban’s PARENTS and MY BOYFRIENDS BACK, the great double feature of HAPPY BIRTHDAY and BLOODY BIRTHDAY all of which were home video staples for decades and which you can now see on the big screen…
Go see something- go see several things- your tingle will thank you

Fantasia Starts Thursday
There is a curtain raiser coming before the start of the fest.
The problem is that in trying to prepare it and include a list of the films we've seen, I kind of ran into the problem of the list being around 50 films long. What I thought was going to be a quick deal has become an involved process. I should have it up Monday or Tuesday.
