Complicit (2017) Human Rights Watch Film Festival 2017
A look at Foxxcon, one the biggest manufacturers of electronics and cellphones in the world who is killing its workers because conditions in its plants are poisoning everyone.
A damning look at one of the dirty little secrets of the side effects of the consumer electronic and cellphone boom, a toxic world this is a film that puts a human face on something many of us have heard about never have seen. Despite the protestations of big companies like Apple its hard not to believe that they not only know this is going on but approve. (I’m guessing they are afraid of the loss of profits). I wasn’t surprised , just deeply saddened.
The saddest thing about the film is that despite shining a light on what amounts to the slow murder of thousands nothing will be done- not because people won’t get pissed off and demand change, rather because no one will stop it because it will mean they can’t have their new cell phone.
