Nova Seed (2016) Ithaca Fantastik 2016

Nick DeLiberto’s NOVA SEED grand masterpiece of animation is a futuristic tale set in a dystopian world where humans live with genetically altered creatures. One of them is freed from the gladiatorial arena in order to help get a being from an encampment in the desert. Freeing himself and the being our hero is pursued by the bad guys who want the being back.

Glorious throw back to the days of hand drawn animation NOVA SEED riffs on any number of classic science fiction films, most notably HEAVY METAL, WIZARDS, YELLOW SUBMARINE and similar films from the 1980's and 70's. Intent on telling a story with characters the film draws you in and drags you along on it's grand adventure across the globe. While it doesn't always make sense it is never less than compelling.

If there are any flaws in the film they are easily excused, in large part because the film is so good, but also because the film is the work of a single artist. What I mean by that is Nick DeLiberto pretty much made the film on his own over a four year period. While people like Hayao Miyazaki have a studio, DeLiberto did it all himself cranking out close to 70,000 drawings and doing the voices as well. This film is the very definition of a singular vision.

Wow.

Imperfect or no this film blew me away.

A must see for animation and science fiction fans

Thank you Ithaca Fantastik for putting this film before my eyes
