No Survivors Please (1964)
Odd, wonderfully so, science fiction film that has aliens plotting to start wars and kill a large number of humans so they can take over their bodies and thus the world.
No Survivors Please is a very off beat science fiction film. Its off beat because while it deals with an alien invasion where the the aliens take over the bodies of the recently deceased, there is nothing else that is typically science fictiony. Basically if I didn’t tell you what the film was about, and if you didn’t catch the occasional line about aliens, you’d think that the film was actually a political thriller where group was trying to sew the seeds of political turmoil in the world.
I like the film. I like that it is very different than what we have come to expect from a science fiction film. This is a film that is truly about ideas, and not just science, political ones since the film is a wicked commentary about the state of the world and our seeming drive toward self destruction.
The flaw of the film is that it is rather talky. You either enjoy the chatter or you don’t. I did, but at the same time I thought it did go on a bit too long.
At the same time its nice to see a film that treats its audience as adults and not as children needing ray guns to keep them interested.
