This is a quick post to make you aware that the Brooklyn Academy of Music is running some great film series over the next month.
First up the weekends of the 12th through the 14th and then again the 18-20th they will be running puppet films. These will not only be things like the Muppets and Sesame street but also the truly amazing, you must see it because it will blow your mind film Legend of the Sacred Stone. This is a martial arts epic but done entirely with puppets. I can’t say enough about the film other than if you want to see a real treat see the film.
For details on the series look here.
They are also running a retrospective of John Landis films the week before Thanksgiving. Its an amazing group of films like The Blues Brothers, Animal House and American Werewolf in London. If you have never seen Landis’ early films on a big screen it is worth the trip to Brooklyn to do so…and as an added bonus the man himself will be there for some shows. Full details are here.
Lastly BAM is doing a great pairing of science fiction classics Thanksgiving weekend. Thursday and Friday they are running 2001. If you’ve never seen it on a BIG screen you must go see it. That Saturday and Sunday they are running Andre Tarkovsky’s Solaris. It’s a head trip film that you may know as an earlier version of the film with George Clooney. If you think the Clooney version is strange you have to see the original. A masterpiece and then some. Details can be found here.
